The Bauchi state Governor, NYSC and NEMA have denied rumours circulating that there was a bomb blast at the NYSC camp, Bauchi killing fifty corpers. Why and how this rumour started still remains a mystery.

NYSC state Coordinator for Bauchi State, Nuhu Kwaghe, described the news as mere rumour.
According to him,

“The way you heard the rumour is the same way we heard it. We have 1,252 corps members here on camp and they are presently on the field for their activities. We can confirm to parents that their children are safe. That kind of thing has never happened here and it will never happen,”

A statement from the Bauchi Governor’s Office signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ishola Michael Adeyemi, described the rumour as,

“The rumour is the handiwork of a few people who are enemies of peace and who want to cause unnecessary panic among the people particularly the corps members who are visitors to the state, the rumour is a mere figment of the imagination of the mongers.”

NEMA’s spokesman, Yushau Shuaib, said

“NEMA wishes to inform the public that there wasn’t any explosion in Bauchi today as has been speculated. We should desist from rumour mongering that may cause fear and anxiety among the citizens.”
