Police say a Massachusetts couple(64&61years old) boating on Hampton Ponds lake in Westfield at about 6:30pm. yesterday, monday 20th august 2012, drowned after jumping into the water to rescue their dog.
The Westfield News reported the police saying, that the husband who first jumped into the lake to save their dog became distressed and his wife, 61-year-old Patricia Cyr, tried to rescue him. Other boaters, alerted by screams, helped pull the couple from the water. Efforts by rescue personnel to revive them failed and both were pronounced dead at hospitals.
But the irony of the entire episode is that the dog survived and was taken to the municipal animal shelter.
They were 61 and 64, if you are going to "report" a story you should probably have the correct facts...
