AVB PERFORMS 1ST TASK AS TOTTENHAM BOSS - SIGNS

Andre Villas-Boas has been named  Tottenham Hotspur's new manager, the Premier League club said today.

Villas-Boas, who was sacked by Chelsea (March 2012) after less than a season in charge, replaces Harry Redknapp who was dismissed by Spurs last month after four years at White Hart Lane.

He will be tasked with creating a younger team as well as qualify for the Champions League.

The 34-year-old Portuguese who is highly regarded by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who shelved plans to speak to any other manager.

£8 million (S$15.8 million) deal has been agreed with Hoffenheim for the attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, while the transfer of defender Jan Vertonghen for £9.5 million should also go through once the Belgium international settles his dispute with Ajax over the percentage of the fee he is due...though, Spurs are also hoping to sign exciting Brazilian playmaker Oscar from Internacional but competition from several of Europe's leading clubs might not let the deal see light.
