Neil snuck out of his house on the big day and made the call from a public phone, warning police, "This is not a hoax call. There’s a bomb in St. George’s Hall and it will go off in 45 minutes." And while the Williams/McArdle nuptials hadn't been booked at the hall, several other events were, and had to be called off.
McArdle eventually admitted to the hoax, though even his lawyer said that the incident was almost funny. "If it was not so serious, the facts of this case have all the markings of a comedy," said his attorney, Charles Lander.
The judge didn't think it was so funny. He sentenced McArdle to 12 months in jail. Thankfully, his wife-to-be is sticking by him. No word on when the couple's wedding will be rescheduled, but chances are, McArdle will remember to book the venue this time
