WHY CONTRARY TO PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN'S CLAIMS, NIGERIA'S GOING TO BE BROKE VERY SOON!

Presidents don’t talk down their country; they try to exude confidence, especially in the era of hyper-globalization where even the most innocuous statements could cause panic in the financial markets. This may explain President Goodluck Jonathan’s assurance at his media chat last week that Nigeria was not broke. ‘If the country is broke, you won’t see most of the investors running over themselves to invest in the country,’ he contended. Nigeria technically broke? No, but the signs of an impending financial and economic storm are unmistakable. The two most poignant danger signals are the fuel subsidy budget and the likely continued decline in the price of crude oil, both of which will continue to deplete the nation’s foreign reserves and depreciate the value of the naira. They will ultimately escalate inflation, stifle economic growth, and eventually kill Jonathan’s ‘Transformation Agenda’.
Nigeria budgeted N888 billion ($5.55 billion) for its fuel subsidies in 2012, but the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Finance Ministry claim that N451 billion of it has already been spent on back payments for 2011. Finance minister and coordinating minister of the economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, says additional $4 billion or N620 billion was needed to ensure subsidy is paid. To do this, government must raid the $3.5-$4 billion excess crude account (ECA), resulting in a whopping N1.51 trillion going into paying for subsidy. The oil marketers – the main beneficiaries of the subsidy largesse – reportedly owe international banks another $3.4 billion (about N530 billion). If paid, this could push the subsidy payment this year to about N2.04 trillion.
The NNPC is also covering additional cost of imports with opaque crude oil swaps. If the swaps are monetised, Nigeria could actually be spending more than 50 percent of its budget on subsidy. If about 70 percent of the 2012 budget is allocated to recurrent expenditures, then very little is left for capital expenditure, let alone funding critical planks of Jonathan’s ‘Transformation Agenda’ like public infrastructure projects, education, and healthcare. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and many economists have warned about the unsustainability of the subsidy, but government isn’t listening. The nationwide shutdown by labour and civil society groups when subsidy removal was announced in January is still haunting it.
Unfortunately, Nigeria doesn’t have much of a buffer against its oil-dependency in case of a severe global oil price shock – the ECA was $20 billion in 2007, and continues to be a cash cow for odious discretionary spending. Early this week, the North Sea Brent crude oil climbed back to $93.02, from its 21-month low of $88 on June 21. This uptake reflects renewed, but misplaced, optimism of an upcoming eurozone summit breakthrough. The rally may also be a function of the renewed tensions between Syria and Turkey; tightening supplies due to news of a widening impact of a strike by Norwegian oil workers (particularly as refinery runs increase following the spring maintenance period); the impending European Union embargo on Iranian crude-oil imports; and news of South Korea’s halting of its import of Iranian crude oil indefinitely as of July 1. The long-term trajectory, however, shows relatively weak demand fundamentals, continued flow of heavy oil output from Saudi Arabia, and the continued threat of worsening relations with Iran. Last week, more than a dozen Nigerian oil cargoes were still unsold for July, just a week ahead of the expected announcement of new loading programmes for August.
Nigeria’s bleak future is being exacerbated by the escalating monthly loss of $1.2 billion or more to oil theft by criminal networks whose activities have expanded rapidly under the Jonathan administration. These fiscal revenue losses could renew pressure on the exchange rate, further accelerating the depletion of the nation’s foreign reserve. CBN ‘stable currency’ dream would be an exercise in futility. Last week, Bismarck Rewane of Financial Derivatives Company Limited warned that the substantial loss in oil revenue could whittle Nigeria’s external reserves to as low as $22 billion (covering just 3 months of imports) from its current value of $37 billion, forcing the CBN to sharply depreciate the naira to N165. Finbank Capital, another financial analysis firm, projects an interbank rate of N163 and N170/$ by end-2012 and end-2013, respectively.
While it’s true that many foreign investors want a share of energy and infrastructure projects in Nigeria, foreign portfolio inflows into naira-denominated treasury bills and government bonds, which had accelerated earlier in the year, have fallen off lately, on the back of weakened global economic outlook, as investors take a flight to safety, exiting their holdings of about $5 billion in naira debt, for the traditional safe havens of choice like the dollar, US treasuries, German Bunds, and gold. The Debt Management Office’s planned sale of N83.9 billion ($515 million) in debt (including up to N30 billion of 15.1 percent bonds due 2017) in the coming week may flop, despite yields on the existing 2017 notes rising seven basis points to a record high of 15.71 percent on June 25.
These ominous signs may not be so apparent in Aso Villa, but the truth is that debt overhang could debase Nigeria’s credit rating, if the debts are not paid on schedule. Inflation, which slowed to 12.7 percent in May from 12.9 percent in April, is projected to peak at 14.5 percent in the third quarter, according to CBN. The lending rate has been inching up of late, to 28 percent officially, as against 26 (unofficial rate is between 29 and 30 percent). The CBN will resist easing up on the lending rate because higher inflation would finish the job started by depleting forex and depreciating naira exchange rate. Economic growth will be stifled, further draining the meagre government revenue from non-oil sector. If these signs of impending perfect economic storm aren’t sufficient reasons for ending fuel subsidy in Nigeria, I don’t what is.

SPAIN WINS ON PENALTIES, BEATS PORTUGAL 4 - 2 TO QUALIFY FOR EURO 2012 FINAL!!!

WAYNE ROONEY UNDERSTANDS ONLY FERGUSON, THAT'S WHY HE ONLY PERFORMS AT MAN UNITED! - Capello.

Former England Manager Fabio Capello irritated by Rooney's recent claims that some of his tactical ideas "got lost in translation". In the wake of England's Euro 2012 ouster and Rooney's poor performances, the Italian told italian radio:.

"After seeing the latest game, I think Rooney only understands Scottish,"

"That's because he only plays well in Manchester, where Sir Alex Ferguson speaks Scottish."

Questions have been asked about Rooney's failure to reproduce his top form in major tournaments. It is a fact that the 26-year-old has never come close to making the same impact he makes when playing for Manchester united.

Whilst manager Roy Hodgson does not seem too concerned, captain Steven Gerrard admitted there were problems that needed to be solved in the team.

Others feel the amount of rest England's top players get is a factor and once again there have been calls for a winter break.

Medical experts have previously added their voice to the calls for breaks mid-season breaks, believing this would reduce the number of serious injuries in the latter half of the season.

All four Euro 2012 semi-finalists enjoy a winter break but the huge competing interests in England have made it impossible.

Whatever happens, England's not been enjoying international competitions in recent years.

VAN PERSIE MAY HAVE A RETHINK NOW THAT ARSENAL'S SIGNED FRENCHMAN GIROUD

With the arrival of French striker Giroud  in north London clubs who earlier stepped down from bidding for van Persie may be back!
Van Persie, the barclay's English Premier League's top scorer with 30 goals last season, has been linked with moves to Manchester City and Juventus and the Italian champions.
Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger is said to be considering playing an attacking trio of Giroud, Van Persie and the Gunners' other new recruit Lukas Podolski as part of a 4-3-3 formation which the Frenchman tried out last year.
The 28-year-old Van Persie, who joined Arsenal in 2004, has always said he would never consider playing for another English club but City will also have perked up at the news of Giroud's arrival.
Its been reported that the Premier League champions are prepared to offer him wages of 250,000 pounds ($390,000) a week. Juventus cannot hope to match that but any striker would surely be interested in teaming up with playmaker Andrea Pirlo pulling the strings in midfield as the Italian giants bid to return to the pinnacle of European football.
With Van Persie's contract up for renewal in 2013, Wenger is hoping that adding to Arsenal's strike force will actually encourage the Dutchman to stay at the Emirates rather than push him away.
That proposed 4-3-3 formation could just as easily develop into a more flexible 4-5-1 or 4-3-2-1, possibly with Van Persie leading the line, and Giroud does not envisage any great problems.
Concerning Arsene Wenger's 4-3-3 formation, Giroud said:
"I'm a player who likes to play, who likes to participate in the game," he told Arsenal's official website (www.arsenal.com). "That's why I think the way Arsenal play will suit me.
"There is a nice sporting challenge as well at Arsenal, and I will play to create history and enjoy myself and give pleasure to the fans.
"Of course, there are big strikers here, it is a big club and there will be a lot of competition for places.
"But it's up to me to win my place."
What we know is that with the current turn of events, Arsenal's dutch goal merchant, Van Persie might have some thinking to do at this stage of his career...28years of age? Think he definitely will.

HE COULDN'T GET CHARGED FOR 2PAC&BIGGIE's MURDER BUT HE'S BEEN CHARGED FOR THE MURDER OF 50CENTS' FRIEND!

Friday, 22nd June, 2012 officials in Manhattan said James Rosemond, was being charged with arranging the murder of an associate of the rapper 50 Cent.

James Rosemond

They called him Jimmy Henchman — the man with the Teflon reputation, tied for years to the feud that led to the murders of two legends of the hip-hop world...2PAC and NOTORIOUS BIG.

His indictment announced on Friday, Mr. Rosemond, 47, was charged with conspiring with five other men to kill 50 cent's associate, Lowell Fletcher, in 2009.

This was just three weeks after Mr. Rosemond was convicted of running a multimillion-dollar cocaine ring.
On June 5, he was convicted in Federal District Court in Brooklyn of running an operation that sold millions of dollars’ worth of cocaine, often transporting it across the country in cases designed for musical equipment.

According to Raymond W. Kelly, the New York police commissioner, said in a statement.

“This has not been a good month for Jimmy the Henchman,”  He said the murder of Mr. Fletcher had been retaliation for an assault on Mr. Rosemond’s son.

Mr. Rosemond, who ran a management company, Czar Entertainment has denied involvement in the bitter feud that led to the shootings that led to the death of 2PAC and NOTORIOUS BIG.

Preet Bharara, the United States attorney in Manhattan, said Mr. Rosemond and the five other defendants had “operated like a mini-gang, allegedly committing a revenge killing, and a host of drug and firearms offenses.”

Though, a seventh man was also charged with firearms and narcotics offenses but not murder.

Mr. Fletcher was shot to death on the evening of Sept. 27, 2009, near Jerome and Mount Eden Avenues in the Mount Eden neighborhood of the Bronx.

Mr. Rosemond and another man hired at least two of the defendants to kill Mr. Fletcher in exchange for drugs, according to the indictment in United States District Court in Manhattan.

Mr. Rosemond is in federal custody for drug trafficking. Nineteen people have been convicted on drug-trafficking and money-laundering charges as a result of the investigation into Mr. Rosemond’s activities.

The deaths of the two great rappers might not have nailed him, but a simple act of revenge did.

2PAC WINS AWARD!!!

Guess who won a top honor at the world's largest advertising festival?
Tupac Shakur's virtual version by Digital Domain!
The Venice-based visual effects studio announced Monday that the company had received a Titanium Award at the 59th annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for its virtual performance of the late rap star Tupac Shakur. The award, presented Saturday in Cannes, France, recognizes the most groundbreaking work in the creative communications field.

Digital Domain released an official statement stating:
"We were thrilled to be part of this project, this completely new idea in entertainment," said Ed Ulbrich, chief creative officer of Digital Domain. "We knew that the world had never seen anything like this and that the response was going to be huge. Having 'Virtual 2Pac' and the idea of virtual performers recognized with a Cannes Lions Titanium Award is beyond exciting."

Working with rap artists Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, Digital Domain, Philip Atwell and Dylan Brown produced "Virtual 2Pac," the performance of a computer-generated likeness of Shakur projected onstage as a hologram to create the illusion that he was performing live alongside Snoop Dogg.

The virtual show debuted at this spring's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where it played to an estimated 90,000 fans. Following that debut, YouTube videos of the performance amassed 15 million views. Google search results for Tupac hologram exceeded 50 million. Tupac Shakur album sales jumped 500% and downloads of his song "Hail Mary" rose 1,500% after the two performances.

"Virtual 2Pac" was chosen by a jury of experts from the world’s top advertising agencies as one of the year’s most innovative ideas, from an initial field of more than 500 entrants, Digital Domain said in a statement.

Even in death he lives on.
