NEMA (National Emergency Management Agency - JOS) staff are at this time still trying to compile a list of those missing or killed, but
Red Cross reported that some 200 homes had been destroyed or damaged in the floods.
Manasie Phampe, head of the Red Cross in Plateau state, said:
“We have recovered the bodies of 35 people that drowned in the overnight flooding,”
“About 200 homes have either been submerged or destroyed.”
Oldest among the dead is a 90-year-old woman and the youngest is a three-month-old baby.
He also added that,
“Rainwater and water from the Lamingo dam which overflowed swept across several neighbourhoods in the city,”
“We are still searching for more bodies as many people have been declared missing.”
The terrible rain that caused the flood started around 9:00 pm (2000 GMT) Sunday in Jos.
Alhaji Abdulhamid Useini a resident said,
“I have lost seven of my children in this disaster the flood also swept away some of my livestock."
The government though keeps announcing efforts at improving the lots of nigerians, but a country eaten up by so much corruption can only offer excuses for failures.
